  1. Jul 08,  · George and Merle were good buddies so it’s no surprise they teamed up on more than one occasion. The legends covered Willie Nelson’s “Yesterday’s Wine” for their album A Taste of Yesterday’s Wine. 6. George Jones and Alan Jackson, “A Good Year for the Roses”.

  5. Hollywood's shoddy packaging of George Jones are notorious but Golden Hits is one of the company's better efforts. The quality of the recordings is fairly good, though a close listen reveals a few instances of vinyl sources, and the re-recordings are not bad ("I'll Follow You On Up to Our Cloud" and "Walk Through This World With Me" seem to be the only originals).4/
  6. The last time I bought a George Jones cd as good as this, was a few years back, on the "King" label, in fact the majority of these tracks might be on that release. This is a cd that I have been playing since I got it, and I can recommend it as great value for the money on offer on Amazon/5(9).
  7. Jones' Musicor recordings have been criminally mistreated through the years with a flood of rip-off collections filled with muddy re-recordings. The budget-priced 20 Greatest isn't a perfect collection but there are a lot worse. The disc consists mainly of re-recordings but at least they seem to come from the same time period as the originals, and the sound isn't too bad.2/
  8. Apr 29,  · Jones’ original Musicor reading of Jerry Chesnut’s “A Good Year for the Roses” appears here; Elvis Costello famously covered the song with Jones’ Epic producer Billy Sherill for his LP Almost Blue. Jones took “A Good Year” to No. 2 Country in the U.S.; Costello’s interpretation went to No. 6 on the U.K. Singles Chart.
